Capturing Rate of Perceived Exertion (``RPE``) for each activity

As juvenile players progress into competitive squads, traditional workload tracking requires each athlete recording their subjective Rate of Perceived Exertion (“RPE”) for each session. This is now available as an optional feature on SURPASSPORT.

The RPE operates on a scale between 1 (Very Light Activity) to 10 (Maximum Effort).

To enable, Edit the squad details, and set the Track RPE to Yes. When set, each athlete is sent a notification requesting RPE tracking to be enabled. This can be enabled directly from the notification panel. It can disabled at any time too, from the edit athlete details panel.

When enabled, the athlete (or their parent) is prompted to indicate their RPE rating as part of the post-activity feedback form. The RPE value provided is presented to the coaches on participation records, for all events on the Workload Details expanded view.

SURPASSPORT goes one step further. Given that the system now was two measures relating to workload (as determined from participation records, and now from the athlete’s own perspective), the workload dial indicates both scores, helping to highlight when there are differences and forming the basis of an informed conversation.

Note

RPE should only be activated for a squad when both coaches and athletes are familiar with the process. It is also not recommended for juveniles until they are at least 16 years of age, unless there is good supervision and also parental training.
